Dear Whispering Emerald Pines,
We
acquired one of your puppies as a gift for the family from my father,
Ron Ward. Angus Strider of WE Pine joined our family late October 2001.
He was born August 15, 2001
I sat
down several times to write you and for whatever reason never finished
my letter. I thought it was high-time I shared with you what a wonderful
dog Gus is and describe what he has been up to.
We
live in the country on 71/2 acres with a pond and a couple of creeks in
the woods so Gus has plenty of room to stretch his legs. We have two
children and they dearly love him. He lets them do whatever they want to
him. Our oldest Rachel, will dress him up and he prances around the
house proud as can be. He sits down and rides in their wagon around the
yard and pulls them on their sleds in the winter. Wherever the kids are,
you will find Gus nearby.
During
the summer we visit our cabin in Kalkaska and he swims in the lake. This
summer he learned that if he patrols the water near the shore he can see
the minnows and he can try to catch them. He would rather "fish," then
he would visit with other dogs and play with the kids. It is quite
comical to watch.
I
couldn't ask for a dog with a better disposition or attitude. He is a
wonderful family dog but yet a great watchdog. If it weren't for the
shedding of the black hair on my white tile floor he would be perfect.
We
spend a lot of time at the cabin and Gus always goes with us. He has
also been to Mackinaw Island on the ferry, visited the U.P. and even
hunted at Lake Gogebic and the Two Hearted River. You open the truck
door and he is ready to go. He duck and goose hunts with my husband and
they both love it.
Gus is
a very healthy, happy dog. People always ask us if he is a puppy and
quite shocked to hear he is full grown. The vet and my dad both say he
is what a Lab is supposed to look like. He weights about 70 pounds and
is short and VERY stocky with a huge head, neck and chest! The only
health concerns we have had were at age 6 months when he had to have a
bottom K-9 removed and most recently a skin infection on his neck and a
yeast infection in both ears (from fishing and putting his head under
the water). The adult bottom K-9 came in and it did not push out the
baby one so the vet simply extracted it. We are very careful about what
we feed him, Pedigree dog food and fruits and vegetables. He loves
bananas and asparagus!
We
love our dog and want to say, "Thank You," for breeding such a wonderful
animal.
Sincerely, Wendy K. Culver
